GREAT PIPES

6 MONTH SHOW REPORT 2009

THE PIPE AND TOBACCO SHOWS START WITH THE SAINT LOUIS SHOW IN FEBRUARY. This show is always well organized with great attendance. Again this year you could smoke in the showroom. When a retired gentleman and a stroke survivor can find a venue with great accommodations, great lighting,  a great lunch, and you could smoke in the showroom, it proves that it can be done! We still do not understand how the so called North American Club has their show stuck in a basement with one elevator and no smoking for years to come. The second show of the year in March was the first of 3 shows in Newark held by the New York Pipe Club. Great venue, always well attended and they come to BUY! Next, in April, the Raleigh Show. This show, at one time, was just outstanding. But now there is no smoking with much less attendance. The fourth show was the great Chicagoland International Pipe and Tobacco Show held in May. This is an Event! Bigger than any other, more people, more displays, more seminars, more social events, and a REALLY BIG TENT for us to meet and SMOKE. The last show for the first six months of 2009 was the Milwaukee Show. Again, this club FOUND  a venue where you could smoke, sell and have a great lunch all in the same large room. What a great show! Hermit Tobacco has supported and attended in the last 12 years, more shows than any other individual or dealer. We feel this gives us a unique perspective in how the shows have developed in the right direction or how they have declined. North America is more than just Columbus Ohio. We do not want to speculate why another show venue can not be found. The Columbus show is next in August. We have displayed at every Columbus show and know that this once outstanding show has declined the most due to lack of motivation? unwillingness to change? or just plain laziness?
